How to hook up a Dvd recorder?

How do i hook up my cable box, vcr, dvd recorder to my tv?

  • i have a vcr dvd recorder that i want to hook up to my cable box and tv but i can't figure out how to set it up without switching the cables around all the time. i use the vcr to watch the tv shows i've already recorded but just started recording on dvd's. do i need a 3-way or 4-way splitter?

  • Answer:

simple... cable from wall to cable box... cable box to vcr/dvd... vcr/dvd to tv. The usual hook ups are as follows: (coaxial) wall to cable box input (coaxial) cable box tv output to vcr/dvd antenna input coaxial cable OR rca (red, white, yellow) vcr/dvd tv output to tv input1 white left, red right, yellow video. INPUTS While the other settings can make the picture a tiny bit better, in your case you won't see any difference and should just use the plain hook up. Also if you hook up more than ONE way (at the same time) you can destroy the units. Hope that helps. carefully step by step.

It's practically impossible to answer this question without knowing what you have for components, especially the TV. Most newer TVs accept multiple inputs. If yours does, see what the outputs are on your components (VCR, cable box, anything else?) and see how they match up to the inputs on your TV. Then, you would use the menu on your TV to choose which input you want to display.

You need an A/V selector box.
