Tivo instead of cable hd dvr.

How do I connect my TiVo Series 2 with AT&T HD DVR?

  • I live in the Bay Area in California and have a single tuner TiVo Series 2 and want to connect it to my AT&T HD DVR and from that DVR, of course to the Samsung HD TV. I know the TiVo recordings will not be in HD. Do I use a splitter from cable in wall to AT&T DVR and also to the TIVO? Should I use composite cables from TIVO to TV or S-video and digital? How do I keep the AT&T DVR from going into standby? How do I change channels on AT&T DVR without affecting TiVo and vice versa? I've check numerous online sources and boards and don't know if there is a good way to do this hookup. Thanks for your advice and support

  • Answer:

AT&T is not cable at all, to start. There is nothing on the coax cable going to the Uverse box that a TiVo can tune. Second, having the TiVo record from the DVR is kind of redundant. If you want to use the TiVo, as well as the Uverse DVR, you need another Uverse STB (non DVR). You have A/V from it to the TiVo (using S-video if you prefer), and an IR blaster to for the TiVo to change channels on the Uverse box. You hide the TiVo's Uverse box and blasters from vew of your normal remote. You can set timers on the Uverse box to keep it alive.
