How to watch HDTV on directv standard dvr?

Directv Dvr vs. Directv Hd Dvr (urgent)?

  • Just got out of the phone from Directv because I wanted to rent the Directv Dvr. I asked about the monthly rental fee, and she said $7 (I guess she included the tax). Then she asked me if I wanted the HD too, and asked her what the ADDITIONAL FEE WOULD BE " (meaning, how much MORE do they charge) she said $10, so I thought she meant $17 in all. I went online after the call (everything went smoothly) and read that the HD is $10 per month, not $17!! Is that true? Its not that we even have an HDtv, it's just that we wanted the feature where all the rooms can watch the recorded stuff, etc. I read that the DVR without the HD doesn't have this feature. Is that true? If so, how can I change the order?

  • Answer:

I think you're misunderstanding. If you order the normal DVR it will be $7 added on to your current bill. If you order the HD receiver it would be $10 added on to your current bill. If you ordered both the receivers then it would be $17 added on to your current bill. If you wanted just one receiver then you might want to call back to check on your orders. If you don't have an HD tv then there's really no point in getting the HD receiver because you can get the normal DVR without the HD. Whoever told you that you needed the HD was dead wrong.

You got the math part figured out I see. As for the recording in other rooms, I can help. All HD equipment is compatable. One of them must be an HD/DVR. If it is a standard DVR, it must be model #R22. That is the only standard DVR that will work. All basic (non HD and non DVR) receivers are NOT compatable.

From what you wrote, it's exactly how much it should be. Which is true. 10+7 = 17. It's $10 bucks for the HD and $7 for the rental dvr rental fee. Which is not including your total bill. BQ: I'm not sure if that's true, you would have to call and ask. In case you don't want it, just ask the sales representative that you want to cancel. Hassle free... ** What I heard from them is you can record in that particular dvr and watch it any room you want it including the rooms without the dvr. I'm not sure about the whole HD and non HD dvr situation. Call and ask... It's your best option and the most factual. It's easy!
