Where to find a cheap DVR for DirecTV?

WHY DOES MY DIRECTV STANDARD DVR HAVE A HDMI PORTS?

  • ive looked online and couldnt find anything and ive even asked directv reps how come to my store (bestbuy) and no ones seems to have a clue why? i mean whats the point if the box is only capable of 480p. it even give you the option to change the tv resolution. the only difference i see between the standard dvr AND THE HD DVR IS THE HD DVR HAS A GLOSSY FINISH TO IT. if anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE. I KNOW THE BASICS JUST NOT SURE ABOUT THIS.

  • Answer:

because you actually have an HD rec. that just happens to have the HD disabled. So now when you want to upgrade to HD in the future, all directv has to do is enable it

HDMI is the new cable standard. It intergrates Video and Audio into one cable, so even though your box is only 480p, if you have a 1080i or 1080p TV, the HDMI cable should work, even if the resolution won't be as good.
