Can I use a DVR with DirecTV?

Can I use a splitter for the second coaxial input for a DirecTV DVR receiver?

  • Our dish only has two connectors, and both are already in use -one going to the living room and one to the bedroom. We upgraded to a DVR thinking we could just switch out the cables from the old box to the new box, but then discovered the new box required two lines from the satellite dish. Can we use a splitter for the line into the living room, or do we have to give up the receiver in the bedroom, which is not desirable for us?

  • Answer:

Go to a satellite store and purchase a SEPARTOR these are used strictly for DVDR

NO Do not use splitters in line between dish and box. You need to get a multi switch to have 3 lines from dish. If you only have 1 line you can still record but you have to watch the program not watch one and record other.. but no splitters if you do you will lose half your programming
