What is the best cables for HD setup?

Help! Setting up a HD cable box, HDTV, and DVD-R?

  • I have a samsung HDTV, a motorola HD cable box from Comcast, and a Samsung DVR. I have successfully connected the cable box to the TV and the DVR to the TV. However, this setup does not allow me to record programs. Someone suggested that I use a HDMI to connect the cable box to the TV and then use the red/white/yellow cables to connect the cable box to the DVR. The DVR is currently connected to the TV via HDMI. One problem. The cable box uses a DVI (no HDMI port) so I need the audio outputs on the cable box to run to the TV (red/white) so I can hear the programming!! Ugh. Spent at least two days on this already. What do I need to do to see the best picture on my TV, hear the program I'm watching, be able to watch and hear my DVDs, AND record programming??? Everytime I think I've figured it out .. well, ... here I am!

  • Answer:

You need a set of RCA splitters or piggyback cables to share the audio out with the TV and recorder.
