Directv installation question?
-
So I'm thinking about getting directv at my new apt but I have to get approval from my management company. I have to write exactly where and what's going to be done with the dish and I have to submit it to my apartment management and they have o approve it before I can install the dish. It can't be screwed into the roof and I don't have a balcony to attach it to. I called directv to see if they can just come out and tell me how they would set up the dish but they won't just tell me, they said they have to install the dish. But I can't get anything installed until I get an approval from my apt management company. (does all this make sense? Lol) So does anyone have a general idea of what directv would do to install the dish on my roof (without it being screwed into the roof) so I can write it up, get it approved then I can call directv to install it? Thanks in advance!

Answer:
Maybe you should pose the same question to Dish Network instead of Directv. Dish Network uses a lot of independent contractors, who just come to a residence with a van and equipment. Any satellite dish has to be firmly rooted into a structure, like bolted in. Even if it moves an inch or so, you'll lose reception. Can't do this with duct tape. What you should be asking your apartment management is..... where on your building are you allowed to install a dish other than the roof. Then you'll be able to get some kind of idea from Directv or Dish Network. Sometimes they can install a dish on a chimney, or under the roof like where drainage pipes are. Are there any other tenants in the building with a satellite dish ? Ask them what they did.

Yes, it makes sense to me at least lol. When they come out to install the dish, that's when they determine where it has to go. They won't come out in advance to see where they might put it. Stupid but that's how it is. My landlord said he didn't care, as long as they didn't put it on the roof. Luckily the front porch worked perfectly. Anyways, what I have seen done in my area is they use what looks like a 2x4 or pole or something and put it into the ground somewhere near your house that gets good receiver reception. And then attach the dish to it. That might be what they have to do. I don't know if they can put it on the roof without screwing it in...I would assume not but I'm not a satellite expert. Good luck!
