How do i watch a movie on tv from my computer?

I like to watch certain movie I get on my computer, How do I set it up to view on my tv?

• My son did it when he visited so I know it is possible. I just don't know if you need a special computer or how to set it up,

  the easiest way is if your computer has an output that matches one of the inputs for your television... your TV almost certainly has an HDMI port, so the best choice would be to determine if your computer has an HDMI port (some high end laptops do) if you are not sure, it probably does not.. many more PCs have DVI monitor outputs than HDMI.. some TVs have DVI inputs, but if your TV does not, you can still use an HDMI to DVI cable or adapter to connect finally.. almost all PCs including low end laptops/netbooks have a VGA monitor output.. there are televisions that are available with VGA inputs to connect your TV to your PC... there are several other methods, such as if your PC has an Svideo output, but those methods do not provide very good quality... since your son did it before you should ask him how he did it.. also, many TVs now are networked, some might even be capable of accessing shared folders from your LAN... a set up like this might be complicated for you to figure out how to set up, but would not require you to have a PC in the middle of your living room just to access your stored media.. if you are just looking to stream online media, either a web enabled TV, or DVD/Bluray player, Wii, Xbox or Roxio would allow you to play netflix, and even some of them would allow Hulu plus and other streaming providers..
