What format is a DVD?

What is the standard dvd format and what blank dvd do i use?

  • i'm trying to burn movies that i downloaded from the internet. what dvd format do i convert them to? and i'm using dvd+rw should i be using a different kind? cause i can't get it to work.

    I think they are in VOB format, but it doesn't really matter, since any program that lets you make a DVD out of videos on your computer should do the conversion automatically. As far as what kind of disc is best, DVD-R discs are probably the most compatible with regular DVD players. DVD+R can be OK too, but RW discs are less likely to work on many players.

Most dvd players only recognize standard video dvd well which include VOB, IFO and BUP files, and dvd+rw is Ok, so if you want to burn any movies to dvd that can be played well on dvd player, you just need to use a right software to convert and burn your downloaded movies to standard video DVD, if you don't know what is the right software, you can try RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any movies to standard vidoe dvd and burn to any dvd discs(DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc), the burned standard video DVD can be played well on dvd player.
