Can you buy a DVR without buying a new TV service?

  • What I mean is, can you just buy the single DVR box, set it up, and keep your current TV service? I have service electric right now and I just want the DVR, I don't want the hassle of buying TIVO and paying for it every month...I would just like to keep what I have now. Is that possible? If so, where can I buy the DVR? Every time I search, TIVO is all that comes up.

    Yes you can buy a DVR to capture any A.V. signal. You can program it to record any T.V. show you wish to watch and then view at your convenience. You can watch DVD's, listen to CD's and burn discs with most models. DV R's are also used in home security systems. Almost all retailers carry DVR's and they can be found at several web sights. Amazon is a good palce to start and they have very comepetive prices.

There are quite a few companies that offer DVRs without the subscription fee, but I haven't really liked any of the ones that I have used. I hate the Polaroid and the Philips is just a little better. Three Lifetime service Tivo is what I use in my house. Lifetime means you dn't have to pay a monthly fee. Tivos are just so easy to use compared to anything else. I saw where Magnavox is selling a brand new DVR on Walmart in the past. I have used the Sony DHG-HDD250 HD High-Def DVR. High Definition tuner and Digital video recorder with no recording subscription fees and no equipment rental! Several functions provide an easy and fun way to pause, rewind, and record live high-definition TV. All of this is provided with no subscription or rental fees. This HD DVR can receive signals via RF antenna and cable. It also has the latest firmware update 1.2.21, which allows it to get customizable TV Guide Programming information from a digital source. I have included pictures showing the firmware and guide data from 7/28/11.
