Why did my dish dvr delete some of my recordings?

alright so yesterday i recorded a couple of shows and i was going to watch them today but when i woke up they were gone along with some of my movies i recorded and i made sure i put protect on them so nothing would happen...has this happened to you guys before and why did it happen?
Answer:

I have Directv so the terms might be different but it probably works the same way. If the DVR was at full capacity it had to delete stuff to make room for things scheduled to record. If you locked it though it shouldn't have deleted those...but other stuff that wasn't protected.

It's never happened to me but maybe the dvr was getting full and these shows/movies were on the bottom of your priority so it made room for the higher priory shows.
