How can I convert VCR tapes to DVD and then edit the movie?
-
I have many VCR tapes from family picnics that I would like to put onto DVD, but I didn't want the entire tape. I do have a panasonic DVD recorder on my tv and also an additional DVD/VCR player. I can see by the DVD recorder that I can hook the two machines together to be able to copy from my VCR to the DVD to record the entire tape. That seems fine but the movies are long and I have some parts that I would like to have cut out so I can just make a DVD of the family parts. If I make a DVD through my TV connections, can I take that DVD and edit it on the computer using movie maker or dvd maker and then copy it to a single DVD? Is there anything special I would need to edit? Is there an easier way? Thanks

Answer:
you could simply go out to Best Buy and purchase Dazzle for $79...and convert them yourself. The problem with many of the systems such as dazzle is that the resolution is low. If you are planning on watching your dvd's on a small tv or as a computer file, it will work well. Go larger...the quality is disappointing; however, this is subjective and a matter of opinion. There are service providers that can assist you with converting; however, you need to be cautious when selecting your service providers. As questions about their resolution, equipment, etc. Also, the price to have this done can widely vary. If you already have DVD copies of the full family movie, you can simply put the DVD into your computer and use a tool to copy the video, then edit it, and finally burn the edited version to a new DVD. Windows comes with a simple editor called Windows Movie Maker. If it can't acquire (copy) the video from the DVD, you can get a tool called DVD Shrink which can for free online.
