Why did my DirecTV remote stop working?

Why has my directv remote to my panasonic tv stopped working?

its not the batteries i know for sure and my remote is like brain dead because when i press a button it doesnt even say that i need to program my remote and ive had this problem for 5 months now but im just to lazy to fix it but now i NEED to fix it!!! please help im frustrating myself
