Connecting up old sky box for freesat?

Can I receive Freesat via a SKY+HD Box without a SKY subscription?

  • I have a Sky box but don't have a Sky subscription but I want to have Sky News and other free channels e.g.BBC incl BBC HD. I know I could use a Humax Box but I don't want to buy one unless its really necessary. Can anyone advise if its possible and, if so, how to tune in the box please?

  • Answer:

Yes you can. Freesat uses the same satellite as Sky, so a dish previously used for Sky will work for freesat. You can use a Freesat box or an old Sky box with a Freesat card in the slot of the box. A Sky card for an expired Sky contract should work too, you'll only get the free channels, none of the ones that are part of Sky packages. ps Sky boxes tune and update themselves, no user adjustment necessary.
