How can I hook up a Dual Tuner dvr to a second tv?

TV tuners for computers...do any connect to cable/digital cable? Want to use like a DVR. Details below?

  • Basically, I have a Mac and I want to get a TV tuner to hook up to the cable outlet in the wall and then to my Mac. I want to use it like a Tivo or DVR (but obviously without the monthly fee!). I would like to be able to stream it to my Xbox 360 and play back through my TV. Is there a way to do this? I looked at the ATI TV Wonder™ HD 650 Combo USB for Mac® but read that it will only work with over the air channels, not digital cable. I also found this... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8388951&type=product&id=1179876289880 Will this allow me to do what I am trying to do? Thanks!!

To answer your first question: Yes - most DO connect to cable. Digital cable I'm not as familiar with but I do think so. However, I don't have any first hand knowledge to offer. There is much more information out there about PCs. The first link I've included is specifically about turning a Macintosh into a DVR. The next two are more thorough guides on turning a PC into a DVR (my apologies but they are more extensive, good primers, and a source of general knowledge). You will have to get additional hardware be it an internal PCI card, an external box, or what have you. Hauppauge has a lot of solutions. As do other video card manufacturers.
