What do the HDMI cables do for the consoles?

Can't get full HD on a FULLHD LCD even with HDMI?

  • I own a Toshiba Regza LCD, that was worth around 700/800 euros that had the FullHD sticker on it. We bought it at a very popular and known media store that was never known to cheat customers away from what they payed for. Here's the actual problem though: I bought this television for the sole purpose of getting the FullHD effect from my Playstation3 and Xbox360. I went through the trouble of buying different HDMI cables, as the normal Scarted cable won't give me the HD I wish for, but no matter what I do, I get weird, croppy shadow effects and a lot of graphical minor glitches, such as the inability to recognise small lines in-screen as straight lines, and showing them extremely blurry, or very badly croppy. I'm not sure about the exact model of the Television, but it would be this one, or something extremely similar: http://aeiou.caras.pt/iv/0/52/705/toshiba-lcd-949c.jpg Before anybody suggests it, I HAVE checked the settings, of both the television and the consoles, so unless there are hidden Settings somewhere... I dunno. I am extremely bummed out by this and I will do anything whatsoever to get this fixed, as I've just started on a really good game that I've been waiting for and I'm not as satisfied with an half-assed version. Not only that, I want to get this fixed before my pre-ordered copy of Final Fantasy XIII comes out. As any gamer would know, it's very advanced graphically, and playing it in these circumstances will kill the satisfaction. Please help, if anybody can =P.

  • Answer:

Whether one can distinguish between 720p and 1080p on a 32 inch TV is VERY debatable, but if it claims it is full HD, then I am sure it fully supports 1080p input. If you press "Display" or "info" on the remote, do you see "1080p"? If YES, do you sit about 6 feet away from the TV when you watch it or play games? Did you actually watch a Blu-ray movie? Do you see the problems with all Blu-ray discs? I am not familiar with the material you play, but I suspect it is SD material scaled up. Play a true 1080p movie.
