Canceling directv. Contract that was never received and lied to by install tech?
-
I ordered a package through Verizon that included TV services, when the tech came out I discovered it was a satellite service. I knew that I couldn't have fios, I had assumed it would be a cable company as was my original package before Verizon. Directv tech tells me that I don't have a good reception from my unit, and they have to install it on the roof, I denied as there is no roof access and told them that I couldn't have it on the roof. The tech left than returned 10 minutes later to tell me that there are other Directv satellites on the roof, and that he could wire from one of those. I give permission to wire from another Satellite as long as it's on our roof. He returns and says everything is installed and set and then tells us that there was NO other Satellite on the roof, and that he had to climb from one building than jump across to our building from the fire escapes(we live in Boston) and that he just wired it along side other wires that were coming down from the roof. I told him that I didn't want it on the roof if there weren't others there, and he said that no one would ever know it anyways and that it was already installed . I called that day to express my concern to the Directv support and they said since I had told him it was ok for him to go to the roof that he had done nothing wrong and that it's now my problem. It's been two months and with a few service issues and a complaint now from my landlord I call Directv to complain and they want to charge me for canceling. I advised that they installed it with false information and that falsifying information to obligate someone to a contract cannot possibly be legal. I also advised that I had called previously and they said since I've had it for two months and I called with a service problem that it voids any mis information given by the technician at installation. I told them to send me a bill and that I would dispute it through small claims. I also asked for a copy of the contract, as it turns out I hadn't ever received a contract from Directv that had given this information in the first place. They said that it had been mailed before the technician came, however I never signed for anything in the mail nor did I receive it. Can they contract you without even receiving a contract?
