How to record from cable to VCR?

How do you connect a dvr cable box to your vcr in order to record a program to the vcr?

  • i have a dvr cable box ,a vcr and trying to connect them both so that i can record some programs i already have programmed from my dvr. How do i do it . My tv has av outlet, hdmi 1 and 2 what do i do?

  • Answer:

The problem is your DVR/Cable box probably allows you to record two programs at once and probably watch a third. As a consequence if you're recording two you don't know which one of these is being output to your TV (unless you change channels to the one you want) I presume the reason you want to do it is so you can Archive the program/send it to someone who's only got a VCR. The simplest solution is to record it to the DVR and then later on (just before you go to bed) set the DVR playing and then record it on your VCR (i've done something similar). Your VCR probably has a scart socket and if you're lucky so does your cable box (you want the one marked TV). If not it may have RCA/AV output (Red,White and Yellow). You can get a converter on ebay for a few quid to convert RCA/AV to Scart.

All VCRs have composite A/V input. Except for the DTA boxes, cable boxes have A/V out. All you need to do is plug A/V from the cable box to A/V in on the VCR, set the VCR to A/V in, and record when you get the DVR playing.

Some VCRs have composite video inputs, you just have to have the right VCR. Also, if your DVR has coax out, then you could hook that to the VCR, and then the VCR to your TV.
