Can you record things from a DVR to a disc?

How do I correct/change my DVR player to record to the correct TV in our home?

  • I was watching a program in one room of our home while working out and decided to go to another room. I also wanted to record the program to DVR. I selected record and set it to record to upstairs DVR TV2. I finished watching program on Tv 2. Now when I attempt to record from TV1 for later viewing all programs get recorded to TV 2 andI am unable to watch them on TV 1 Now this was NEVER an issue until I set DVr player to record in another room TV2 after working out that one night. Well I probably had never done that before so I am lost. It worked fine before I did that and I could use guide and program it to record to TV1 in our basement so I can watch recorded programs while working out. Please bear with me. I am an 80's lady. I did try to cancel things recorded to TV 2 but it would not work HELP!!!!

  • Answer:

"TV1" and "TV2" actually refer to the tuners inside the DVR- and not your physical TVs. This is bad design by the DVR people! In most cases, "TV1" refers to the TV that is in the same room as the DVR, and "TV2" is the TV that is in the other room. By default, the "TV2" tuner in the DVR is used to record programs. If there are 2 programs on at the same time you wish to record, then the second tuner ("TV1") will be used to record that. However, anything recorded by the DVR - regardless of whether TV1 or TV2 recorded it - should be available to be watched on either TV in your house. Again, using Dish Network, you would hit the DVR button twice on the remote to go into the list of recorded shows, and there you go. You can always watch a show on any TV regardless of what the tuners are doing. This is why I hate the "TV1", "TV2" nomenclature because it's vague and confusing. To make things more confusing, the remotes are also labeled "TV1" and "TV2". "TV1" has a green tab on it, while TV2 has a blue tab. For your setup, the green remote goes in the room with the DVR, while the blue remote goes in the other room. The blue remote uses a different type of signal, so it can talk to the DVR even through floors and walls. The green remote is like your TV remote and probably won't work if you get too far from the DVR. Using the wrong remote in the wrong room will make it appear as though the TV isn't responding.

Bad design, I don't think it could be any easier. TV1 has the dvr, TV2 shares that receiver. It has to be in the Dual Mode to operate like this. Keep the correct remote at the correct tv and it's really quite simple. By default, TV2 is the tv that is being used to record your program. When you set up a recording, you have the option to record to tv 1 if you want to. If you have a program being recorded on tv2 and you schedule another one in the same time slot, it will appear on your guide as tv1 because of the conflict. It will become easier the more you use it. Enjoy
