Netflix Streaming still possible with weak wireless signal? what's the minimum speed?

Why can't I stream HD on Netflix?

  • Ok, I have a Blu ray enabled computer that plays Blu ray discs in beautiful HD. I have an internet connection of 100Mbps solid when connected directly to the wall and no less than 48 Mbps and up to 140 Mbps connection speed when using my router's connection (I checked both of these in real time while streaming an "HD" movie on Netflix with connection and Network and Sharing center under the 'Wireless Network Connection Status' window). However, my computer refuses to stream in HD (yes I am streaming movies that are available to stream in HD and I also have the "Allow HD" box checked). I have reset my router and computer and still nothing. I have NO clue whats going wrong and I've even called Netflix and they don't no why either. Please help, this is super frustrating.

  • Answer:

100Mbps solid is the speed of your local wired network, that is not your internet connection speed. To get a fairly decent estimate of your internet connection speed, go to http://speedtest.net/ and run the test.
