How to program a directv remote control?

How do you program Directv DVR remote to control a Sanyo dvd player?

  • I have a Directv DVR white remote and it will turn on/off the dvd player but the function buttons don't work. What am I doing wrong?

  • Answer:

Hi! You can try the following steps to reprogram your DirecTV remote control to your Sanyo DVD player... 1. First, make sure your DVD player is turned on. After that, slide the mode switch at the top of your remote to AV1. 2. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT button at the same time until the green light flashes twice. 3. Enter this code: 20873 (The green light on the remote should flash twice.) 4. Aim the remote control to your DVD player and press the PWR button once. This should turn off the DVD player. If the first code doesn't work, you can repeat steps 1-3 and enter any of these codes: 20695, 20670. I hope this will help reprogram your remote...

I've realized that sometimes a code for a remote will only work the power function, so the best way to get the right code is to try functions other than the power button. http://directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPage.jsp?assetId=P4350020 that will help you look up the correct codes DirecTV remotes are only guaranteed to work with the receivers, so if it doesn't work with your DVD player I would suggest a universal remote, specifically one with a learning function. I have a nifty Phillips one and it controls just about every function for my tv, vcr and dvd player. You might also be able to program it to your DirecTV receiver (mine can be).
