Are Comcast and TiVo compatible?

Do I need a TiVo subscription to use a TiVo with Comcast?

I decided to order Comcast service and I notified them that I would be buying my own cable compatible TiVo to use with Comcast service. They said this is fine, but they didn't tell me whether or not I'd still have to pay for a monthly TiVo subscription in addition to whatever I'm paying Comcast for cable. I don't see why I should have to do this considering I've had a TiVo with DirecTV for 7 years, and I've just paid about $10 a month for DVR service. I didn't actually pay TiVo anything directly.

If you buy your own device, you will have to pay the additional Tivo subscription fee.
