Are DVD recorders as reliable as VCR's?

Dvd recorders and normal dvd players, help?

  • i have a dvd recorder and it does a ood job of recording the dvds maintaining a good picture and all, but the dvds with recorded things on it do not work on a normal dvd player. basically, the only dvd player that can play and read the burned dvd is the dvd recorder. the same dvd with the recording on it can't be played on a normal dvd player only the recorder. is there a model out there that burns the recording in a way that allows you to play it on normal dvd player? i wanna record the olympics, some parts and play it on a normal dvd player, because what if the 1 dvd recorder got destroyed, i do not wanna play burnt dvds exclusively to the recorder, they made their own little monopoly witha dvd recorder. btw jamaica is destroying, conquering everyone else in track and field.

    Only things I can think of are: Make sure that you finalize them. Don't use DVDRW and if your burner supports both kinds, try the other kind of disc than you're using DVD+ or DVD-

I have a Phillips DVD Recorder and don't recall having the problem you're talking about. However, I have had that problem as far as DVDs I have either copied from Netflix or other people, or DVDs I have burned through online downloads from my computer's DVD burner--most of those DVDs seem to be picky about where they play. The one thing I noticed in those situations is DVD-R pickiness. For example, I think the Maxell brand DVD-Rs I have play in all the DVD players I try them out in, but the Fujitsu ones are so picky. So you might want to try out different brands, assuming you haven't been buying different types of DVD-Rs with your current DVD Recorder, and see if that helps any. If not, then I'd go to amazon.com, for example, to look at various reviews on different DVD Recorders to see which ones record DVDs that can play in most DVD players.
