Connecting Comcast DVR to home wireless network (USB port work around?)?
-
I know that you can't connect a Comcast DVR to a wireless network using a USB wireless adapter because the USB ports don't work. However, I have a set of Logitech Play Link point-to-point connectors. I've plugged them in to my DVR and the wireless router, but I can't see the DVR in my network connections. Is there some way to tell if the DVR is actually connected? Are there settings I have to fiddle with on the DVR itself? In case it matters, I have a Scientific Atlanta DVR box, not the Motorola HD one. Thanks

Answer:
Unfortunately the USB ports are NOT even turned on for your DVR. This is why you cannot even see the DVR. So even though you pluggedyour Logitech connector to the USB ports it will NOT work. At this time there is no work around. Even if there was a software upgrade that turned on your USB ports you would also need specialized software that could read the DVR's internal software. For instance a Tivo has its USB ports activated and can be networked, this also allows the use of TivoToGo software for transfering, or Tytools 10r4 for transfering. These two softwares are programmed so that they can see where the shows/movies are kept on the hard drive of the DVR. I have connected my DirecTV Tivo's to my homes network and can transfer shows/movies via Tytools 10r4, but even when I connect to the Tivo's hard drive via a FTP connection and I can look through ALL the folders inside of the Tivo software, I do NOT see any of the shows/movies listed anywhere. They are hidden in the Patented areas of the software I believe. There is NO way to get your DVR connected, their is ONLY about TWO ways to get the shows/movies off your DVR, this is either via a DVD Recorder or onto a PC that has a TV Tuner Capture Card, either way it will only record to the DVD or PC in real time; 2 hour movie=2 hours to transfer and save.. Sorry this cannot work for you, unfortunately ALL Satellite (DirecTV has this feature disabled also, it is just that the software used is under a GPL license and is able to be modified legally to enable the USB ports for networking) and Cable Companies will NOT allow the DVR's to be used like a Tivo due to worries about Copyright infringements.
