How to reformat a DVR drive for use on a computer?

Wd3200avbs direct tv dvr hard drive, is it encryped so I can't plug it into my computer and reformat it?

  • I wan't to use it as a computer hard drive but my bios won't recodnize it. The sata port it is pluged into shows as a blank space in the bios where a sata port that has nothing pluged into it shows as sata port 5 and not a blank space. I took it out of a dvr so I am wondering if encryption is keeping me from seeing it at all in the bios or if it is just a dead drive.

  • Answer:

why would you think a dvr hard drive would work with a pc? well, as you can tell I dont know what the hell im talking about. But, try calling the geek squad maybe they could tell you, or try to find a forum with a bunch of computer geeks where you can post your question. As you can see yahoo answers was not the right place to ask this question. sorry I couldn't be more help here try this forum they might be more of a help http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/index.php?s=7d9da8a453e7e6629ddc00ac2891be82

because a dvr hard drive is the exact same hard drive they sell for computer use. I am asking if their is a way to reformat it so my computer will recodnize it, that is if encryption is my problem and that is what is preventing my computer from seeing it. Or if the drive is dead then I know that even though a drive is encrypted your computer can see the drive in the bios and is able to reformat it for use as a normal hard drive for my computer, not as a dvr ran through my computer, which is probably impossible.
