How can I record a show on Comcast?

I have Comcast Cable with DVR. Can I record a cable show onto a VHS tape? If so, how?

  • Answer:

You need to run audio and video cables from the Comcast Cable DVR output to your VCR input. Sometimes TVs have these connectors and you can connect those outputs from the TV to the VCR. Which is good because then you can watch what is happening on the TV. Select the show you want to record on your DVR. Press Record on your VCR. Press Play on the DVR. I have used this approach to record shows to my PC for carrying with me on my Creative Zen Vision M portable player. Another friend has used this method to record shows to a recordable DVD player.

That is what a VCR is for. You don't need a DVR for that. DVR are the new "VCR" except that the video is stored on a hard drive and not on removable media. You can hook up a VCR to your TV and then the DVR to your VCR and view the channels through the VCR tuner. Or you can buy a TV that has a VCR built within.
