What HD PVR Should I Buy For Recording Gameplay?

Any cheaper 720p HD PVR's for recording ps3 gameplay out there?

  • I was googling HD PVR'S yesterday, and came across one that retails for $115 oon amazon (but they were having a $19 off sale). I forgot the brand name, I just know it starts with an A, possibly avi- and I forgot the rest. Anyone know this brand, or what is a fair quality PVR for around $100? Also, does the PVR come with everything you need accessories or do you have to buy extra things like a certain cord or sound card? Best answer to whoever helps or tries.

  • Answer:

You won't find anything for under $179 that will give you PVR quality, the only capture card that cheap is the Dazzle or EasyCap. And you might want to be careful with buying those two. If you're willing to spend $115, the Dazzle would easily be the best choice. There are two Dazzle models, Standard which is about $40-$50 and HD which is probably around $75-$80. The HD model is a bit misleading though, it can only record in SD, just like the Standard model. The main difference between the Standard model and the HD model is the fact that the HD model comes with a different software. It allows you to record (in SD), edit, crop, and render (in HD). The Standard model's software only allows you to record (in SD), edit, and render (in SD). You can achieve this same edit, render in SD/HD with Adobe Premier & After effects, which is far superior! Or try Sony Vegas 9. If you opt for the Standard model, you'll need a good editing/rendering program to make up for what the included software is missing. The best way to record with a Dazzle is using S-Video, it requires the purchase of an extra cable, but the quality is much better than regular Composite. To record via S-Video, you'll need the following: Xbox 360 S-Video Cable. 1 double-sided A/V cable 3 A/V Splitters (1 Male to 2 Female) here is the dazzle: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pinnacle+-+Dazzle+DVD+Recorder+Plus+Video+Capture+Cable/9714459.p?id=1218156772061&skuId=9714459 For an HD PVR, I would say Tristar MX HD PVR. The best way to record with Tristar MX HD PVR is using composite cables. No extra cables are needed to be purchased. Everything you need to record and connect the HD PVR to your ps3 and HDTV is included in the HD PVR box. http://www.newelectronx.com/proddetail.php?prod=tristar-mx-dvr Other and better capture cards are Hauppauge & BMI. These record in 720p or higher. They need to connect to your computer & ps3. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Hauppauge+-+HD+Personal+Video+Recorder/9317768.p?id=1218084034619&skuId=9317768 Hope this answer helps.
