Do you need an aerial to get freeview?

What do I need to do first before I can get Freeview?

  • Well I want Freeview in my room but I don't have an aerial socket box like I have downstairs. The tv came with is own aerial but I don't think I can pull it out(well I haven't tried). What do I have to do? Would someone have to come and install and aerial socket in my room or something?

  • Answer:

It depends how strong the signal is, whether you need to be connected to an external aerial. In my Mum's house, quite near a transmitter, you can get Freeview very well just using the little round wire aerials that come with TVs. You can also buy bigger indoor aerials and boosters, but I don't know how much that improves things. You should try using a little aerial first, and if it is not suitable then probably it would be best to get a socket connected to the external aerial.

You need to be close to a transmitter, to be able to get a good signal with an indoor aerial. However; when they shut down analogue reception, area by area, they are able boost the signal, making reception better. http://www.freeview.co.uk/Help/Aerials-and-Reception/Aerials-and-reception-explained
