Help with TiVo please?

A program to convert files? TiVo help? If you know about either of these please look.?

• Okay, I have TiVo (assuming you know what that is) and I have a network set up for it. I can transfer movies to my dad's comp. only though. On my mom's I can't do it. At first my comp. said it didn't have the software to play the movie. I downloaded TiVo desktop, and it came up like it would play, but now it has an error when I open it. I think it might be because it's a TiVo file and I need to have it as a movie file to put it into any video editing programs, Windows Media Player, etc. If there's something else wrong, PlEaSe tell me how to fix it. I'd really like to know of a program that can convert files, preferably free.

  So if I read this correctly, you can transfer programs to your mom's computer but she can't play them? You probably just need the right codec.
