Universal hi-def converter/dvr for tv? works with comcast/fios/direcv/etc...?
-
you always seem to have to rent a converter box and/or dvr from whatever tv programming provider you chose (comcast/fios/direcv/etc....) is there any hi-def converter/dvr i can purchase (and own) that can be used with any tv signal provider to watch tv? also directly accessable with ethernet to my computer would be nice!!!! how does TIVO fit into this scenario? is it a separate service or a separate piece of hardware or both???

Answer:
with comcast you have to use their equipment...it is set up and programmed to take (decode) their suite of products and must be activated by their head end signal to receive (decode) their signal.
