Watching/Recording TV From My Uverse Receiver To My Notebook with An HDMI Cable?
-
I have a HP Pavilion DV7-3162nr Notebook. The Graphics Card installed is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200. There is HP Media Smart Software on the computer that can watch live tv. I went for the long shot and tried to run the HDMI cable from the tv subscriber box to the HDMI slot on my computer. I'm guessing the HDMI slot on my computer is "output only" because it didn't work. I was prompted that I had "No TV Tuner Device. No TV tuner card detected. Please check your TV tuner card or add one to use this program." Some questions please. Is the HDMI connection on my computer really just an output only? If it can receive incoming video, what software and or drivers are required? If in fact it is only an HDMI output, what kind of hardware and/or software do I need to purchase to connect the HDMI cable from the subscriber box to my notebook for watching/recording the incoming signal. I Would also like to do the same with my PS3 even though im sure the hardware I need would work for both. Thanks for any replies and i appreciate the help

Answer:
There are websites that will sell you a HDMI to RCA cables and make a quick sale yet HDMI is Digital and RCA is Analog there is no way to do this except using a converter box and the question then is why spend the money. Consider what others use over at YouTube there are many people posting their gameplay from xbox to PS3 and many of them use from bottom to top: The Dazzle series of devices http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_8_15?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pinnacle+dazzle&x=0&y=0&sprefix=pinnacle+dazzle The Hauppauge HD PVR http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html Blackmagic Intensity http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/ While at YouTube you'll notice that most use Dazzle then the Hauppauge few go to the Intensity and even less to the top-shelf devices which are not posted ....kinda high well to high even for me. If you consider this route MAX your RAM get it all you will notice the Diff in the long run, many use WinXP why it's stable yeah Win7 is good and all yet less is best if you using it for video capturing. Finally pick a good capturing software, Hauppauge has one with theres as does Dazzle yet many like Sony Vegas and there are others yet look whats best for your setup.
