  • HELP FIXING MY RECORD PLAYER, NEEDLE GLIDES ACROSS MY RECORD.? i need someones help fixing my record player, the needles fine, but when i try and play a record it plays but will slightly glide around on the record skipping parts.... but if i push down the needle a tad it plays fine, like the needles not applying enough pressure to the record or something, can someone help me please?

    The last time i had a record player ( over 20 yrs ago) When this problem arrose, i would set a penny on top of the needle head. Probably not a good idea any more

There should be a little dial right by the base of the tonearm that says anti-skate. Under normal circumstances (i.e., simply playing a record) you should set the anti-skate to the same number that is marked on the weight on the end of the tonearm or the manufacturer's recommended setting if there is one. However, if you are doing any sort of backspinning or backcueing, you should the anti-skate to 0. If your needle magically pops out of the groove and skids across your record, it might be due to the wrong anti-skate setting.
