Would a DVD-R work in a portable DVD player?

Why doesn't my DVD-r work in dvd player?

  • I put .avi videos onto my DVD. I used window's media player to burn it. The program even converted it. I put it into my dvd player for tv, but it doesn't work. I then put it into my laptop & computer, it worked. How am I suppose to make it work in my dvdplayer for television?

    Depending on the generation of your DVD player, it may be that it won't recognize the DVD-R format. Earlier players that would recognize any recordable format would only recognize the DVD+R format discs. For whatever reason, at that time the +R was a television format and the -R was a computer format. If your burner will burn the +R format, give that a try. If it still doesn't work, and your player is fairly new, then I am at a loss. If your player is an older one, it may not recognize ANY recordable format. HTH

DVD format is VOB, you have to convert your AVI video to DVD compatible video at first, otherwise standard DVD player can not read and play it.
