How to connect tivo, tv and dvd player?
-
I have quite an old tv, the 'holes' in the back of it are only an aerial connection and then the video in and out and the audio in and out (4 in total). At the moment the composite cables are separate for the dvd player versus the tivo. In order to play dvds i have to disconnect the aerial to the tivo and put it in the dvd player and switch the composite cables from the tivo ones to the dvd player ones. So how do i connect it so i can switch between dvd player and tivo. I know i need some sort of splitter for the aerial and something to do with an s output. im using the antenna from on top of the roof. i dont have cable. ive been using the tivo so the tv is able to receive digital broadcasts. the tivo is a dual tuner, i dont know what model. im in australia and there is only 1 model out (i think). i just dont know what cables i need so i can just flick from dvd player to tivo without having to change the red, yellow and white cables at the back of the tv from the tivo ones to the dvd players ones, and without needing to pull the aerial cable out of the tivo and putting it into the dvd player.

Answer:
You need a video switcher. Very easy to find. If you have a Radio Shack near by, they would definitely have one that will fit your very need. You'll be able to plug in all your equipment (dvd, tivo) to it, and have just one central line to the TV. Then just push a button on the switcher for what ever you want to watch. Simple If you don,t have a Radio Shack, any electronics store will have it, and fairly cheap too. Just shop around. Here's one I found on Ebay Australia http://cgi.ebay.com.au/3-Way-Audio-Video-AV-RCA-Switch-Switcher-Splitter-Cable_W0QQitemZ290381751670QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Video_Game_Accessories?hash=item439c19e576#ht_2941wt_941

I've never been to Australia, so things may work differently there. As a US cable technician and technical trainer, I have seen hundreds of DVD players, and never have I seen one with an antenna input. DVD recorders, yes, but not players. If you have a recorder, you just need a two-way splitter for the RF (antenna) signal. Hope this is helpful.
