Is DVR recording on the wrong TV?

Direct TV DVR recording?

  • I just got the dvr from direct tv, and unless I am mis- understanding something am I supposed to be able to watch one show while recording another? I am in the middle of recording and in order to change the channel I have to cancel the recording so have to watch what I am recording. I really hope someone can help me.

    I hate to answer a question with another question but,have you looked at the back of the DVR to see if both sat inputs are connected?There is a sat 1 & sat 2 input on the back and both must be connected for both tuners to function,sounds like you may only have one line hooked up.If the installer didn't connect a second line then it would perform as you describe.You can also call DirecTv tech support and they can walk you through troublshooting and if needed schedule a service call to fix it,and if it was not installed properly make sure they have it fixed at no charge to you.

By any chance are you sharing a signal with another T.V. in the room, cause you might be recording something on tv one which means that you would have to watch your other show in tv 2, which sucks really bad. If not I know it sounds lame, but just record two shows that you want and select the one you wana watch while it's recording or you can just call cutomer support. Does it do it all the time?

U can record 1 show & watch live TV . If U r recording 2 shows in the same time slot U cannot watch live TV on another channel. U can pick something from your recorded list & watch that while recording both shows. If U have 2 TVs & only 1 dvr U can watch anything U want on the 2nd TV that is not connected. I have this service & I totally enjoy it. Hope this helps !

ok. when you had it installed they needed to run 2 lines to the back of the receiver. if only one line is going to the back of it then you only have the ability to watch what you are recording. they are designed to record two shows at once but if the installer is unable to wire it for that, the feature becomes unavailable.
