How to get digital antenna to work with Direct TV?

  • We recently got Direct TV but we are unable to get local channels in my area. We have the NFL package but can't watch nationally televised games. We bought a digital antenna by RCA. We can't get it to work though. None of our tvs are digital but if we hook it through the Direct TV box it should be able to work. But it doesn't. We have a digital tv as our computer monitor and tried to use it but it wouldn't work either. And we don't have the remote. Any ideas on how to fix this before the game tomorrow?

    that other dude that answered was kind of a dick dude - anyways all you need to do is go to wal-mart or something like that and get a DTA box. It's one of those digital converters and they're like $25 I think. You'll also need a switch if you are using the coaxial cable to connect your Direct TV to your TV. You can't run the digital antenna through their box, it's a gay thinng they did due to DVR and unlicensed television channels. So if you've get the DTA box and put it in between the TV and the Antenna you will get a great reception and it will work like a champ.

I thought the whole idea of getting DirecTV is to also get local channels. You should get the channels local to your market area, which may not necessarily be the channels you're used to getting over the air (OTA) or via cable. The four receivers available via DirecTV do not have an built-in digital OTA tuner. So what you're doing won't work. In one sentence you say you have no digital TV, but then you say you have a digital OTA TV as a computer monitor. That digital TV should already have a built-in digital receiver. Connect your digital antenna to that digital TV, select the correct input, and it should then work. You cannot disconnect the SAT IN port on the DirecTV receiver, connect your OTA antenna to that SAT IN port, and expect anything to work. So, put everything back to what the installer had set up, and use your digital TV with your OTA antenna to watch OTA TV.
