Can i use a cd instead of a dvd to record a home video?

I don't have blank DVDs and I was wondering if I could just use a CD? So are CDs fine for my VCR/DVD combo? I'm converting VHS to DVD and I just want to know if I can use DVD and how to record it on that CD/DVD.

Yes you can use a CD but you have some limitations. You can't record dvd quality (720x480) on a cd. You are limited to video cd (basic vhs quality) or super video cd (super vhs quality) formats. While you can record 1-2 hours of dvd quality video on a dvd (single/double layer) you can only record about 20-30 minutes of lower quality video on CD. The short answer is spend the $$ on DVD's...the other two formats don't look very good and may not be compatible with your dvd player.

Yes you can use CD's. But rour player needs to support the format you are using. Many DVD players play all formats of both DVD and CD's. Check the player spec's.
