How do you record from a TV with a DVR to your old VCR?

  • Is there anyway to do this. i want to record a show either on DVD or VHS and i have AT&T with DVR and won't let me tape anymore. if there is a way to do it can someone explain it to me in simple terms!! lol

  • Answer:

Connect Red & White Audio Wires From the DVR Audio Output to the VCR Audio Input. Connect Yellow Video Wire From the DVR Video Output to the VCR Video Input. Connect Red & White Audio Wires From the VCR Audio Output to the TV Audio Input. Connect Yellow Video Wire From the VCR Video Output to the TV Video Input. Change the input on your TV to Video or Auxiliary Once your connections are completed, turn the TV, VCR & DVR on as if you were going to watch a video tape. Set the VCR's video to the input where the DVR is connected. You should now see the DVR image on your screen. Pop in a tape, start watching the show on the DVR and hit the Record button on the VCR. Hope this Helps Mouse

You'll need 2 sets of AV cables (the yellow/red/white ones) Connect your VCR's OUTPUT to the TV with one of the AV cables. Verify you can get the VCR to display on your TV. Connect your VCR's INPUT to the DVR. With the TV set to display the VCR, set the VCR's input/channel to that of the input where the DVR is connected. For instance, on my VCR this is IN2. On other models it maybe AUX. You should see the DVR on your TV, but it should be coming from your VCR, not the DVR. Now use the DVR remote to choose the program you want to record. I usually use a pre-recorded program for this. Put a tape into the VCR, hit record on the VCR, and then start playing the show on the DVR. When the show is done, hit stop on the VCR. That's all there is to it. The VCR will record whatever the DVR is showing. You can hit the pause the button on the VCR when the commercial comes on, and use the DVR's remote to fast forward. This way you can fit more programming on the tape. This also works with a DVD recorder or VCR/DVD Recorder combo. Simply do the same thing, only with the DVD Recorder instead of the VCR. They both work about the same way. The big differences with the DVD recorder is that you can delete shows off the DVD if you made a mistake or something like that. However if you want the DVD to be playable on a normal DVD player, you need to "finalize" that disc. Check your manual for instructions on how to do that. Once finalized, you won't be able to modify the DVD anymore. We've been recording DVDs full of programs for our parents since they don't have cable. And with the commercials removed, they can watch a normal hour long program in just under 45 minutes.
