Are Comcast and TiVo compatible?

Connecting TiVo Series 2 with a Comcast Cable Box?

  • I just recently had a Comcast cable box installed in my apartment. I have a TiVo Series 2 that I had been using previously in my old home. Now with installation of a Comcast cable box, I am trying to figure out how to connect the two devices and as well as how to update my TiVo through my internet connection. I have tried previously to update my TiVo through my broadband connection but it comes up with an error saying that I need an adapter between the two to be able to do so. I currently have a Comcast DCT2244, one of the oldest cable boxes Comcast has and I would appreciate any help I could get on figuring out how to get all of this working together.

  • Answer:

A Series 2 TiVo needs a network adapter to connect to a router. Dual tuner models have built in ethernet, single tuners need an ethernet adapter to connect to a wired network. All require a wireless adapter, the best being the TiVo brand one. To connect your cable box, cable from wall to box, A/V from box to TiVo, TiVo A/V to TV, IR or Serial form TiVo to cable box. Repeat guided setup for cable with box. If you have a Series 2 DT, you can split cable to it and the cable box, and add analog cable to your guided setup.
