Help with moving shows from my dish receiver?
-
I have a dish network dual dvr receiver. Its a VIP 722k dvr. I have a crap ton of shows on it and i am about to run out of space. i dont want to delete anything but i dont know how to move the shows to my laptop and have more room on the dvr. Dish networks site says i have to get an external hard drive AND pay 40 dollars to be able to use it! Is there any other solution here? The front of the receiver has a usb port but i dont know if its useful without an external hard drive. I really dont want to have to spend that much money on a stupid option to move my shows but does anyone else know of any other ways to accomplish this? Thanks a lot!

Hi, Mary with Dish Network Customer Service. The USB port on our VIP Receivers is there to connect to an External Hard Drives (EHD). We do charge a 1 time $40.00 fee to activate that feature on your account and you can activate as many EHDs that you want. It allows for easy transfer of recording from the EHD & your DVR in the "My Recordings" menu. I had a power issue in my home 2 years ago and it caused a Hard Drive Failure on my DVR, I lost all my recordings and my everything saved on my PC. I now back up both independently, a lesson I learned the hard way. You can hook up any EHD, up to 1 Terabyte (Min 50GB), it must have it's own power source and a USB 2.0. Just an FYI: Changing the internal Hard Drive on the Receiver will void all warranties in the future. I hope you find a solution for your DVr recordings and have a great day.

Look on the back of the dish receiver and see it there is a line one output. If there is, connect an rca cable to that and send it to an old vhs recorder or purchase a new dvd recorder. Or you can send it to the cpu but you need the correct cable for that. Here's a site for cables http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-video/c10000-p1.html The usb port is for future use and does nothing

A company by the name of Weaknees offers a service where they will take your Dish Netywork receiver and change out the hard drive with a larger one and they will even copy the content and setting you have to the new hard drive. It costs more than $40, but let me tell you that with a 2 terabyte hard drive, you will never again have a hard drive space issue. http://www.weaknees.com/tivo-upgrade.php

you cant transfer shows to the external hard drive !!!!!!! you can only chose which device ( hhd or dvr ) you want the show recorded and stored on. at this point your only choice is to start the replay and record them to a dvd with a dvd recorder,
