How do I burn videos onto dvd-r and get them to play on a dvd?

I have a DVD-R(for general) disk and I would like to burn videos so I can play them on my SAMPO DVD player. How do I do that. do I have t convert it first?

Well, I think the aneesoft DVD creator can do this favor for you one I m using, it no need to do converting first, just input the videos including HD videos, AVI, MP4, WMV, FLV, DivX, VOB, M2TS and MKV for outputting to home movie DVDs, as well as create DVD folders and ISO image files.
