Will a satellite DVR work with just basic cable? No more sat but have cable. Can I use the sat DVR?

No. The tuner(s) will only work with a satellite signal, which is very different from cable.

You mean you dont have any subscription? It will not work. It doesnt work like a DVD that can record even if you dont have subscription to payTV. You need cable to connect the DVR to the TV. You can use the most common cbale called coax cable. It is usually black.
