Is there something wrong with my direct tv?

Hi, so last week I tried to watch the real housewives of Atlanta (a guilty pleasure of mine) and I wasn't able to. The bottom of the screen read: 721 you have not purchased this channel. I flick through the rest of the channels to see if this isn't the only one. Come to find out I have all of about six channels plus basic TV channels. I don't pay the satellite bill so I'm afraid to ask. So what my question ya'll is; Is it possible to pick and chose your Direct TV channels so that you only have about 8 or 9 cable channels? It seems odd considering you have to purchase direct TV by the package and not by the channels and there is no package containing less than 50 channels.

No, you can't pick your Directv channels a la carte.

NO you can't choose your channels. I think dish lets you but there service isn't the best.
