How to set DVR for dish network?

How do I set up my vcr to tape programs shown through my Dish Network DVR?

  • My dvr is connected to the tv by an hdmi cable. I tried hooking my red, yellow and white cables to the vcr but when I try to tape anything all I get is a blue screen with audio but no picture -- actually you can kind of see the image behind the blue but it appears to be floating upwards from the bottom right to the upper left. What am I doing wrong?

  • Answer:

Did you hit "play" on the DVR, "record" on the VCR, and change the VCR input to the set of jacks on the VCR (usually called "direct" or something like that)?

Other answers

Generally with Dish you have to watch the program you are watching. It could be two things. 1. Your VCR must be set to record the channel that your TV is set on. If your TV is on 3, then that's the channel you tell your VCR to record. 2. You must leave your Dish converter on and tuned to the channel you want to record. Some converters let you set a timer so that it will come on and tune to that channel.
