What's a good HD reciever?

Will direct tv hd reciever work if I switch card from regular reciever?

  • Ok so we bought a new tv. We have direct tv already but not in hd. Our problem is we cant pay the 100 dollars direct tv is asking to upgrade our reciever plus addtnl per month charges. I have a friend who has an extra HD reciever. The reason we want to know if it works is because our tv only has one set of RCA ports/input jack or whatever its called in back. And the rest are HDMI. We have the dvd which is RCA output as well and the sat. We keep having to switch the plugs out when we want to watch dvd and sat. Its a pain. So will using the HD reciever work with the card that is in the current box? Or do I have to go through DTV to get a new box???

  • Answer:

cards cannot be switched between 2 receivers at any time. especially being on 2 differant accounts. I do have a cheap alternative. go to radio shack and buy rca dual pigtails. you will have 2 outlets for each, ( 2 red, 2 yellow. 2 blue) so you dont have to plug and unplug your systems.dtv will sell you a new card for your friends dtv system as long as thier is no existing bill on that receiver.

If the box is owned, you might be able to use it. You might be able to use your card, or have to get a new card. In any case, you will need to call DirecTV to get the receiver on your account and activated. You won't get HD unless you upgrade to an HD dish, and it is a newer H2x/HR2x receiver.
