How to connect a basic cable box to a dvd recorder?
-
the cable box does not have RCA out, only cable in and cable out. The dvd recorder is tuneless. no cable in. Is there a way to connect them? what kind of wire plugs available to use?

Answer:
Easy, IF you have the right thing to do the conversion, a ATSC tuner/converter, the new digital over the air free digital TV which replaced the tuner in your TV can do the job. These are now cheaper than ever now that analog TV is dead and they saturated the market, $20 on sale last I saw at my local biog box store. This TV converter (at least the one I have) has RF input (capable of receiving the old TV analog, new ATSC digital and unencoded analog QAM cable), RF output on analog channel 3 or 4, and standard A/V RCA connectors for video (yellow) and audio (left-white, right-red) output. In your case, The RF output of the cable cojnverter goes to the ATSC tuner and the RCA output of the ATSC tuner goes to the RCA A/V input of the DVD recorder. You can thank Congress for causing you this difficulty... Still with the ATSC converter, you may be able to use it as a cable tuner in parallel with your basic cable box to get the analog signals they are still using in addition to an antenna to get your local digital channels, by simply switching the input from the cable to the antenna. Contrary to what another said, the signal will not degrade or be any worse than a standard TV. What that person said IS true when you go to copy video tapes, however. But, that is from the quality of the signal recorded on the tape, not the conversion to and from an RF signal. That is why I suggested the TV converter and taking advantage of the A/V outputs it has.

some vcrs will let you run r/f ( cable ) in and rca out , you may have to trick the vcr into thinking its recording in order to enable the rca output , plus the quality of your recordings will be disappointing. any possibility of upgrading your cable box instead

You need to get a VCR to be a tuner, or get a cable box that has A/V out. No wire or plug adapter will help, as the signals are different to not be possible that way.
