How can I get my picture in friendster?

Why do I get a clearer picture from my anteena on the roof then I get from DISH satellite?

  • Our new lcd tv receives a better picture from the roof anteena because it receives channels in analog, digital & hd. The digital & hd picture looks great. The analog looks like crap. The analog picture is what we receive using or DISH satellite receiver. Why would that be if DISH has a digital signal? We have the dual tuner receiver. We have not upgraded to the hd receiver yet but thought we should still be getting the digital picture with the box we have. Our Tv has ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuners with 1920 x 1080 resolution so it should receive a good picture. Watched the Dallas Game off the roof anteena yesterday & it looked like you were right there on the field. Viewed it using the DISH satellite & the picture was crap. Any suggestions on why the picture is crap using the satellite? We have it hooked up with an S-Video cable. Should I have it connected another way?

    The Answer is Compression of signal. Dish Network and Direct Tv compress the Digital signal , that's why they can send hundreds of channels on one satellite, where years ago they could only send 24 channels 12 on Vertical and 12 on Horizontal , being able to compress the signals made satellite alot more economical eventhough the picture quality would suffer. HD on satellite will not be compressed as much and picture quality will be much better . The roof antenna is great for local HD networks and the local networks get the signal from the same source that Dish gets it from , the only difference is dish compresses the signal and your local network doesn't . You would think that picture quality would be better today than 20 years ago Analog , not the case unless it's pure HD.

Call your dish provider, they should have come to your house and set it up for you. Before they left they should have tested it as well. Get comcast digital cable: its comcastic

HD signals are sent out and can be picked up by anyone with an HD television and an antenna (just like the old days). Some HDTVs have the antenna built into them and pick it up that way. I don't know why the picture from your DISH is so crappy, but that's something you should take up with your provider.

DO NOT GET COMCAST!!!!!!!!! The reason you are not getting HD quality from your dish is simply because you don't have HD receiver from dish. Your roof antenna is receiving the digital signal sent from your local TV station uncompressed. therefore giving you the very best digital signal you will ever see. HD is digital from beginning to end, the program is recorded digitally, sent digital, and then received digitally. Your current dish receiver is only receiving digital signal, the signal from the platform provider is being sent analog. I would highly recommend that you call your satellite provider, hopefully Directv, and get upgraded with HD equipment. FYI by the end of this month, Directv will have more channels than any other provider world wide. Good luck
