Home Theater PC & PVR: QAM Tuner For Recording HD Shows From DVR To PC In HD Quality?
-
I have a QAM tuner installed on my Windows XP PC. I also have a subscription with a cable company and cable box + DVR in one. My question is is it possible for me to watch HD shows recorded in the DVR through my computer's QAM tuner if those channels are not encrypted, even if my video card or computer monitor is not HDCP compliant? Also, record those shows onto my computer just like the way I can record ATSC signals from an OTA antenna? I prefer over the cable signals (like QAM) to OTA as I am surrounded by skyscrapers and planes/helis often fly above me. By the way, I do not have a Cable CARD slot anywhere around my computer. Thank you.

Answer:
No. The RF out on the cable box is analog NTSC, not QAM. To watch any cable on your QAM tuner, it needs to be live cable. Yes you can record those programs.
