How to record TV shows?

  • I have your basic standard cable hookup for my television. The cable connects directly into the back of the set without a cable box, DVR, or anything like that. I also have a DVD/VCR player that is apparently play only, in other words, it won't record shows from the TV. Has anyone else ever heard of this? Do I need to purchase something in order to record TV shows now?

  • Answer:

I never heard of a VCR tha doesn't record. You'll need a new vcr, or TIVO, or a dvr from the cable company.

Your DVD/VCR unit will record VCR tapes... hence the name VCR *Video Cassette Recorder* ;) (but you'll have to spend some time familiarizing yourself with the semi-difficult recording process of "yester-years" primative recording that was VCR! LOL - but it is an option for you! Your cable company can provide you with a DVR (digital video recorder) - and this usually only costs @ $5 - $10 per month extra on your bill. It's extraordinarily easy to operate and is worth every cent! But... if you're hooked up "illegally" (?) then learn your VCR options - or buy a Media Center PC :P I hope this helps! :D
