How to view freeview channels?

Freeview problems please help?

  • i got a freeview from maplin yesterday andi have an aerial and tv. I plugged everything in but the freeview isnt working. I keep searching for channels but it keeps saying no channels found. The free view has NIKKAI on it and i dont know if thats the company or brand. Is it the freeview or the aerial? My tv can find channels but the freeview cant.

  • Answer:

When you state that you purchased 'freeview' from Maplins that it was a Freeview receiver box. Provided that you have have disconnected your ariel cable from the 'back' of the television and reconnected it the ariel socket on your freeview box and connected the freeview and television with the scart cable which is usually supplied then all the available channels would have been searched for and stored. If you have connected your television and freeview box up correctly then it could be you need an ariel up-grade. Hope this helps, regards David

Most probably your aerial. Digital signals need a clear line of sight to your nearest transmitter. they are not like analogue. You need a wideband aerial on the roof correctly aligned to your nearest transmitter. Indoor aerials are usually not strong enough to get the signal.

It might be that Freeview isn't yet available in your region,so before buying a new aerial use the Freeview checker at the link below to see if freeview is available in your area http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability
